UCl CONFIRMS ANDRONI GIOCATTOLI FOR 2017

The management of the UCl has confirmed the status of the Androni Giocattoli team as they secured a Professional Continental status for 2017.

Meanwhile the fate of Giuseppe Saronni’s TJ Sport team remains unknown, after the proposed sponsorship from China failed to materialize.

The UCl has earlier in November, awarded 20 Pro Continental licenses and 17 World Tour licenses. Stating that the position of the Polish Verva Activejet team, and TJ Sport team, were still under evaluation.

With the start of the 2017 season only a few weeks away, the Tj Sport team may be in a desperate situation as they are yet to be confirmed by the UCl.

It is unclear if Activejet team will secure Professional Continental status before next year, or if the team will settle for the lower-level continental status. On the other hand, Androni Giocattoli team can now heave a sigh of relief following their confirmation. The full list of confirmed continental teams for 2017 has not yet being released by the UCl..

News about the misfortune of the Tj Sport team surfaced earlier this month, when Cycling news revealed that the Sport holding company in china has failed to provide any funding for the team, therefore compelling the team manager, Saronni and team coordinator, Mauro Gianetti to start an urgent search for new sponsors.

There had been speculations about a sponsor from Abu Dhabi that would cover a budget of 8-9 million Euros; however, the team manager failed to uncover the name of the new backer. Consequently, no details or confirmation emerged before the deadline of December 15 fixed by the UCl for the close of all registration.

It seems highly unlikely that Lampre, who have being a long time sponsor of the team, will come to their rescue. Ultimately, the team’s manager would have to confirm the Abu Dhabi sponsorship, or satisfies the UCl’s licensing commission requirement to provide a sufficient bank guarantee, rider contracts, and sponsorship.
