Thomas finishes in 8th

Geraint Thomas managed to put up a pretty decent performance at the recently concluded Down Under Tour. The dapper Welshman finished at 8th overall in the esteemed championship amidst baking conditions around Adelaide.

His latest power-packed performance at the Down Under Tour has upped his standings by a place.

“It was just right in city center & thus there wasn’t any sign of breeze”, stated the Olympic champion while speaking about the extreme weather condition at South Australia. “It was pretty hot, fast & furious on the narrow roads featuring ample corners. It’s really stressful throughout the day & we felt like bumping shoulders for 2 hours.”

Thomas was supported by another Welsh rider Luke Rowe & together both of them helped their Sky leader Richie Porte bag a stunning win at Old Willunga. The Aussie rider came 4th overall in this illustrious season opener.

The young rider ended his 1st World Tour of 2014 just ten seconds after home victor Gerrans (Simon), who made a record by winning the championship for the 3rd time.

“It’s a fantastic start. Richie came 4th & I was on top ten on GC”, remarked an excited Thomas.

“The Saturday’s win was something we flew here for. Our early training & the amazing scores at the race, I feel, has prepped us pretty well to go on for the remaining year.”

Porte was equally happy- albeit he couldn’t make it to overall winner yet he was content with his Willunga win. In his own words-“It would’ve been really nice if we could make it to the podium yet the winning at Willunga stage amidst the cheer of such magnanimous crowd was like the perfect consolation. It was a very good week & squad showed incredible effort. I feel we all are quite happy about our performance.”
